Isaac Ciechanover Investment Partner (Life Sciences)
Dr. Isaac Ciechanover joined Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers as a partner in 2010 to work in the life sciences practice. Isaac brought to KPCB his more than 15 years of experience working with entrepreneurs and organizations to change the practice of medicine through innovation. He has sourced a number of investments for the firm and is a board observer at Corventis, Crescendo, Elcelyx, Five Prime and Tesaro.
Before joining KPCB, Isaac served as executive director in the business development group at Celgene Corp. His responsibilities included the sourcing and execution of in-licensing and M&A activities for the R&D and commercial functions with an aggregate total value of more than US$6.7 billion. These activities included the acquisition of Pharmion Corp. as well as broad R&D collaborations with Array BioPharma, Globeimmune and PTC Therapeutics. Isaac also served as global project leader for Celgene’s first clinical stage biologic therapy, and he initiated and led Celgene’s venture investment and alliance management activities. Earlier in his career, Isaac was with Amylin Pharmaceuticals, where his responsibilities included business development and planning. He began his career as a venture capitalist in the healthcare practice at Pequot Ventures, a multi-billion-dollar diversified investment fund.
Isaac holds a B.A. degree in psychology from Stanford University, an M.Phil. degree in epidemiology from Cambridge University, an M.D. from Weill Cornell Medical College and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. When not at work, Isaac enjoys cycling, scuba diving and building Lego with his children. His favorite albums include Dark Side of the Moon (Pink Floyd), OK Computer (Radiohead) and Pagliacci (Herbert Von Karajan conducting).
