Ryan Popple (Greentech)


Ryan Popple joined Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers in 2010 and is a partner in KPCB’s Green Growth Fund (GGF), which supports young companies leading new markets in sustainable ways. With deep operational expertise in bringing advanced vehicle technologies to market, Ryan leads GGF’s focus on sustainable transportation and the lifecycle milestones driving adoption.

Before joining KPCB, Ryan was instrumental in the successful capitalization of Tesla Motors and the commercialization of its first-in-kind Roadster. In his role as senior director of finance, Ryan and his team took the company from pre-revenue to $100M in commercial contracts and an IPO filing in two years. Ryan also oversaw the Roadster’s scale-up efforts including financial planning and business development. In this role, he worked closely with engineering, supply chain and manufacturing teams to increase performance and quality, while leading the development of Tesla’s innovative consumer financing and leasing programs. Ryan’s years at Tesla were pre-dated by key roles in energy finance at ExxonMobil and Chevron.

A U.S. Army veteran, Ryan served as a platoon leader and executive officer in the U.S. and overseas. Ryan holds a bachelor of business administration degree in finance from the College of William & Mary and received an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar.
